TIME FRAME: ALL EIGHT JAZZ FESTIVAL EVENT DAYS April 24th to May 4th, 2025

POSITION SUMMARY:

Transport Artists to and from the musician parking lots and their stage as directed by the Shuttle Dispatcher.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Drivers will be assigned to a primary stage. You will be responsible for monitoring the radio and transporting artists to and from the music parking lots as directed by the Shuttle Dispatcher. There will be occasions when you will be asked to assist with transporting artists to and from other stages, especially in the mornings and at the end of the day. Your daily routine will be as follows:

Arrive at the Fair Grounds no later than 8:30 AM. (Note: On Kids Day you may be required to arrive earlier.)
Report to the Shuttle Dispatcher at the music lot trailer. Check out your radio and vehicle. The Shuttle Manager will update you on any necessary information pertaining to that day.
Stand by at your assigned music parking lot location and wait for your first group to arrive. Once you bring your first group to their assigned stage, return to the musician’s lot and wait for additional artists to arrive. The Shuttle Dispatcher may give you additional instructions.
The Shuttle Dispatcher will call you when an artist or group is ready to leave the stage and go back to the parking lot. Contact the Shuttle Dispatcher once you have the group and are in route to the music lot. You should always notify the Shuttle Dispatcher of your movements and location.
You will likely be assigned a volunteer to help with loading and unloading personnel and gear. Your volunteer is not allowed backstage and should wait by the van when you are parked at the stage.
It is your responsibility to help artists with their gear. Contact Shuttle Dispatcher if you need help with loading and unloading gear.
It is important to thoroughly check your vehicle each time an artist or group unloads to ensure nothing is left in the vehicle. DO NOT LET MUSICIANS LEAVE ANYTHING BEHIND!
Be sure you have and use the provided step stool to assist passengers.
Backstage Managers have control of the backstage area. Please follow their instructions and leave the area if you are asked. The backstage and stage area is a working area. Be respectful of the activity that is taking place and stay out of the way.
While driving your vehicle and especially on the dirt track it is imperative you drive with caution and proceed slowly.
Obey all security instructions and report any and all accidents, incidents, and situations pertaining to your vehicle, your passengers and yourself to the Shuttle Dispatcher.
The Shuttle Dispatcher will keep you informed of track conditions and track closings.
Drivers must inspect their assigned vehicle daily for any damage. Damage inspection forms will be provided for this. Drivers will be provided with accident procedures and an accident report. Please follow the accident procedures immediately following any incident.
At the end of the day the Shuttle Dispatcher will let you know if it is okay to turn in your vehicle and radio and check out.

Requirements:

VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED
Shuttle Drivers are required to attend the annual music production meeting scheduled the week of the Festival. You will be notified of the exact date, time and location of this meeting. Drivers will have the opportunity to meet other drivers and music lot personnel as well as find out the latest in routes and pick up / drop off procedures. Additionally you will receive your festival credentials, and other pertinent information.
Performs other work related duties as assigned.
Must maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive issues.
Any document, computer program, design or other intellectual property created for the Jazz Festival belongs to the Jazz Festival and must be given to the Festival through your supervisor or department head at the end of each production year, or upon request.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED

Good driving record, valid driver’s license and some heavy lifting required. Experience in driving a large passenger van or cube truck. Good verbal and communication skills are necessary.

THE NEW ORLEANS JAZZ AND HERITAGE FOUNDATION, INC. WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY SUBSTANCE ABUSE BY ITS EMPLOYEES WHILE ON DUTY, NOR MAY THEY REPORT TO WORK UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL OR CONTROLLED DRUGS. ANY EMPLOYEE VIOLATING THIS POLICY MAY HAVE HIS OR HER EMPLOYMENT TERMINATED IMMEDIATELY, AND WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE PREMISES. UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES, ASSISTANCE WILL BE PROVIDED, WHERE POSSIBLE, TO ENSURE THAT THE EMPLOYEE ARRIVES HOME SAFELY.

Jazz Fest features one of the world’s most diverse music festival lineups with over 650 bands on fourteen stages performing virtually every style of music plus an extensive food fair, hundreds of artisans, second line parades and much more. Spread out over two long weekends in late April and early May, Jazz Fest takes place at the New Orleans Fair Grounds Race Track, located just minutes from the French Quarter.
