JOB SUMMARY: The Community Outreach Specialist must have a passion to serve our community.

The Community Outreach Specialist ensures that potential and current Tepeyac Community Health Center patients are provided with the appropriate information about Tepeyac services, resources, and provides health education in the community. The Community Outreach Specialist represents the organization in the wider community and provides a welcoming connection to the clinic.

Pay and Benefits: Tepeyac Community Health Center offers a comprehensive compensation package to all full-time employees. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, a flexible spending account, a 401k, disability insurance paid for by Tepeyac, nine paid holidays, approximately four weeks of paid time off each year and over a week of sick time.

The hourly range for the Community Outreach Specialist is $22.49-$25, depending on experience. This is full-time 40hr/wk position. While this position will mostly be completed during the typical work week, there will be occasional evening and weekend hours required to be present at community events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Represent Tepeyac Community Health Center through specialized health promotions outreach to Latino/a and other underserved populations to promote our mission and services to the community.

• Develop or identify content to educate community on prevention and screening, healthcare, healthy living, and wellness. Prioritize community education programs based on community health assessment.

• Create new material and innovative strategies to improve outreach including content for our social media platforms, flyers, posters, etc.

• Collect and monitor program data and make strategic recommendations for how to increase awareness of Tepeyac in the community and how to increase insurance enrollment for Tepeyac patients.

• Outreach community agencies, schools, and program participants. Cultivate and maintain relationships with outside organizations to develop opportunities for Tepeyac’s educational programs.

• Serve as the lead for Patient Advisory Group meetings, partnering with other leaders in the organization to develop content. Serve as patient welcomer, meeting facilitator, and note taker. Serve as primary liaison to ensure patient ideas are transmitted to Tepeyac leadership.

• Working with a variety of grant priorities, such as HIV prevention, air quality, etc., that change throughout the year based on funding.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Attend required internal meetings, trainings, and events.

• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Education & Experience:

• Degree in public health or communications preferred though experience can substitute for education.

• Two years of professional experience in health promotion, health education, and/or community outreach.

• Experience working with low-income Latino/a and other underserved communities, in addition to the ability to comfortably speak to and teach small groups.

• Experience with public assistance programs or strong understanding of strategies to removing barriers to care.

• Oral and written fluency in English and oral fluency in Spanish required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Strong initiative and the passion to advocate and provide healthcare to the underserved. Sensitivity to low income and ethnic minority communities.

• Adaptable and flexible; problem solving and critical thinking skills.

• Ability to translate government policy changes into clinical workflows, patient forms and education materials, and explain complex policies to staff and community.

• Self-motivated and able to achieve results through good organizational skills, ability to work independently, self-directed and a functional team member, ability to organize and prioritize.

• Highly proficient computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills to include presenting and speaking in public settings.

• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Vaccinations: As required by Colorado’s CMS Vaccine Mandate, all Tepeyac Community Health Center employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, subject to the requirements of the American with Disabilities Act (42 U.S.C. § 12101 et seq..), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act (42 U.S.C. § 2000e et seq.), the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (C.R.S. § 24-34-401 et seq.), and any other relevant federal or State law.
