Burrows & Stutsman is a team of experienced civil litigators with over 50 years of combined expertise in defending clients through all stages of the litigation process. We are dedicated to providing aggressive, dynamic, and targeted defense strategies to achieve optimal outcomes for our clients in California state and Federal courts. Currently based in San Diego, we are looking to expand our footprint into Northern California and the central valley to better serve the needs of our expanding client base.

Role Description

This is a full-time role for a Senior Litigation Attorney at Burrows + Stutsman LLP. We are looking to build out a new office location and the ideal candidate will be someone with experience supervising younger attorneys and a drive to take on a leadership role within our growing firm. The position will initially be fully remote, eventually transitioning to a hybrid role as we establish our presence in the region. The Senior Litigation Attorney will be responsible for providing legal advice, conducting research, negotiating on behalf of clients, drafting legal documents, taking and defending depositions, and attending hearings, mediations, and trials. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional legal support and leadership for our attorneys, contributing to the growth and development of our practice, and ensuring the highest level of service to our clients. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and skilled legal professional to take on a leadership role and shape the future of our organization.

Duties

Comprehensive management of a full case load of pre-litigation and active litigation files.
Draft legal documents including pleadings, discovery, discovery motions, dispositive motions, and trial preparation documents.
Collaborate with attorneys to prepare for meetings, depositions, and negotiations, providing valuable insights and strategic advice.
Conduct legal research to advise clients of the merits of their claims and those asserted against them.
Negotiate with clients, opposing counsel, and other interested parties to resolve legal disputes and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
Communicate with clients regarding case status and strategy.
Offer strategic guidance and support to junior attorneys, contributing to their professional growth and development.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Active member in good standing of the State Bar of California
6+ years of experience practicing law, with a focus on civil litigation (insurance defense a plus)
Proficiency in legal research software, including Westlaw and CoCounsel, and a willingness to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field.
Experience in legal research and analysis
Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
A strong understanding of legal procedures and the ability to apply them in a variety of contexts
A commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct
Trial experience not required, but is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary ranges from $150,000 to $200,000, commensurate with experience. 1900 minimum billable hour requirement. Quarterly bonus program based on total hours billed. Health/Vision/Dental, 401(k), generous vacation policy.
