Principal Software Architect

Optomi, in partnership with a leading provider of financial services, is seeking an experienced Principal Architect for Application Development to drive and lead the strategic transformation of our technology ecosystem! This highly visible role will involve influencing enterprise-level architecture decisions and creating innovative solutions to support the Servicing (logged-in) experiences, ensuring alignment with our long-term business vision. This Principal Architect will serve as a technical leader, providing expertise to guide teams in the design, development, and deployment of scalable, robust, and high-performance systems across the organization. As a senior technical leader, your input will be instrumental in shaping the future of the company’s technological landscape.

Responsibilities of the right candidate:

Lead and influence the development of enterprise-wide architecture strategies and solutions. Provide actionable architectural guidance to both business and technology partners, driving alignment between technology initiatives and overarching business goals.

Define and implement the architecture vision for critical systems and applications, ensuring they meet long-term business objectives and scalability requirements. Lead architectural assessments and trade-off analyses (ATAM) to identify the most suitable technology solutions.

Partner with multiple business units, development teams, and stakeholders to ensure strategic architecture decisions align with business priorities. Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership in making architectural decisions that directly impact product development and organizational success.

Continue to actively contribute to the hands-on development and implementation of high-impact application solutions, providing expertise across cloud-native and on-premises environments. Lead architectural prototype development to reduce risk associated with new solutions.

Drive the adoption of best practices for cloud-native application design, including microservices architecture, APIs, containerization, and stateless design. Provide advanced technical leadership for cloud platforms, primarily AWS, and ensure seamless integration across distributed and legacy systems.

Lead the development of organizational standards, patterns, and best practices for application architecture and design. Oversee the creation of robust solution documentation, architecture diagrams, and communication strategies to ensure transparency and alignment across teams.

Take ownership of enhancing our DevOps pipeline, contributing to the automation of application deployments, monitoring, and alerting systems. Foster a culture of continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) and drive initiatives to increase operational efficiency and resiliency.

Act as a mentor to architects and developers, guiding teams in architectural decisions, ensuring adherence to enterprise standards, and helping them grow in their technical capabilities. Champion a culture of innovation, promoting the use of emerging technologies and architectural trends within the organization.

Ensure that all technology solutions are not only technically sound but also deliver business value, supporting business outcomes such as customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and revenue growth. Provide thought leadership on the business impact of architectural decisions.

Experience of the right candidate:

12+ years of experience in software architecture, enterprise architecture, and application development with a proven track record of driving large-scale, strategic technology transformations in a complex, integrated environment.

10+ years of experience with full-stack and middleware development, with an in-depth understanding of CI/CD pipelines, distributed application architecture, test strategies, technology optimization, and strategic planning.

8+ years of experience in solution and enterprise design with a focus on full-stack application development in both cloud-native and on-premises environments. Deep hands-on experience with AWS and cloud architecture best practices.

Solid experience in modernizing legacy systems, including IBM zSeries/iSeries, and transitioning to cloud-native or distributed architectures while maintaining system integrity and performance.

Experience with industry-standard frameworks such as TOGAF or similar frameworks to guide enterprise architecture strategies and initiatives.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field. Master's degree or equivalent professional certifications in architecture and cloud platforms is highly desirable.

Experience with ELK stack, CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Urban Code Deploy), and other enterprise-level automation tools is highly desired.

Knowledge of financial services or highly regulated industries is a plus, as well as a demonstrated ability to translate complex technical decisions into business-driven outcomes.
