Established as a community non-profit in 1972, The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region. Our vision is to create a Center and Center culture where every person feels and knows that they are welcomed, valued, and supported. As the beacon for our regional LGBTQ community, we actively recommit to being a more vibrant, bold, innovative, safe, and modern center each day than the day before. The Center is sex-positive and provides advocacy and critical health and social support services to support our community members through all stages of life, focusing on our deeply held values of equity, social justice, and client-centered, trauma-informed care. The Center currently has over 75 staff working at five facilities across San Diego County.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Community Programs, the Director of Latin@x Services seeks to fulfill The Center's mission through development, implementation, and coordination of a broad array of activities and services for the Latin@x community. The director will execute a comprehensive strategy to ensure Latin@x clients, volunteers, Center staff, community members and community organizations have consistent and meaningful engagement opportunities and experiences at The Center.
PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Programs and Services
Develop, implement and/or conduct activities and services focused on the Latin@x community.
Expand binational relationships and cross-border program engagement in coordination with the public affairs department.
Based upon the needs of the community serviced by Latin@x Services, develop and facilitate strategic outreach and linguistically diverse and accessible materials for The Center on an ongoing basis.
Be an active liaison to the community and build strong relationships with group facilitators that cater to the Latin@x community.
Coordinate and facilitate peer-led support groups that create an inclusive, culturally affirming, and supportive space for group members.
Utilize approved demographic data collection database and processes, and outcome-related data collection, to inform activity or project reporting and to plan future activities and programs.
Work cooperatively and creatively with colleagues and supervisors to anticipate and resolve challenges.
Work closely with colleagues to achieve the participation of the Latin@x community in our civic and community engagement goals.
Provide guidance and support to organizational programs to ensure the Latin@x community is included in outreach and program delivery.
Serve as a medical advocate for individuals living with HIV, coordinating culturally affirming care and connecting clients to vital resources that support their health, well-being, and stability.
Volunteer at The Center's food bank event at a minimum twice per year.
Plan and host various events for the Latin@x community throughout the year.
Leadership:
Manage day-to-day operations of the Latin@x Services Department, which includes management of direct reports, outreach events, objective achievement, and coordination and overall oversight of the program.
Supervise/mentor all assigned staff.
Provide guidance/direction in the development and execution of any work plans, the strategic plans, and projects.
Provide guidance/direction for career planning, performance challenges, and evaluations.
Facilitate and guide staff through planning outreach events. Increase the participation of individuals from priority populations through targeted inreach and outreach.
Achievement of Grant and Contract Objectives:
Know the terms, conditions, and scope of work of all contracts and grants related to your activities.
Ensure proper implementation of funding strategies are done in a timely and strategic manner with the support of the grants and development teams.
Develop solutions for any component goals or objectives that fall below contract/expected performance and implement solutions.
Produce all contract- and grant-required reports based on The Center and funders' timelines.
Enter accurate program data into The Center's electronic client database in a timely manner.
Budget Development and Oversight:
Assist supervisor in the development of an annual budget, with a particular focus on Latin@x Services, and track expenditures monthly against that budget to ensure appropriate spending levels.
Ensure timely submission of all check, cash, or credit card requests, as well as vendor submission of appropriate invoices.
Ensure timely, accurate submission of all routine, required documents, including timesheets, mileage reimbursement, and other reimbursements.
Teamwork, Collaboration, and Communication:
Maintain excellent communication with all staff involved in executing program activities and projects, including finance, development, and organizational leadership team.
Ensure that all activities, projects, programs, and events are done in coordination with the communications/marketing team, the finance team, and the leadership team.
Provide excellent response time and service to all clients, staff, volunteers, and all external partners.
Maintain regular communication and engagement with facilitators and ensure they have the tools needed to successfully lead support groups.
Maintain positive and professional collaborative relationships with internal and external colleagues that seek to continually support and strengthen team and collaborative relationships.
Consistently employ an excellent "customer service" strategy and maintain an effective and constructive interpersonal approach.
Understand, communicate and consistently implement policies and procedures.
Representing The Center:
Represent The Center at community activities, as appropriate, and/or as directed by the leadership team.
Ensure that Center programs and activities with which you are involved consistently reflect the Center's commitment to uplifting and creating space for the Latin@x community of the region, including across the border.
Ensure that Latin@x Services programs, activities, and events are consistently included in our strategic communications plan.
Maintain an appropriate work environment and adhere to community guidelines, standards of conduct policies, and procedures.
Create a positive, proactive environment for clients and staff.
Exhibit cooperation and courtesy and assist in creating a positive public image for The Center and a productive work environment.
Ensure the safety and well-being of clients, visitors, staff and volunteers.
Ensure that all facility requirements are in good working order. Promptly report any repair or maintenance issues.
Required Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience: 3-5 Years of managerial experience. A proven background in working with the Latin@x and BIPOC community is required. Either a bachelor's degree or related experience.
Computer/Office Equipment Skills: Must be comfortable working in PC/Windows-based environments. Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Communication/language Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish. Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
Other: Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Community organizing at the intersection of social services is preferred.
Strong background and understanding of migration and regional immigrant rights issues.
Prior experience working in the immigrant, binational LGBTQ+, and HIV communities preferred, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
Strong organization and record management.
Other Skills: Must demonstrate competence in working with a variety of populations. Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities. Ability to supervise, direct, and lead staff and volunteers of different cultures.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Compensation: The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $32.69 per hour and is commensurate with experience. This is a Full-Time, Regular Non-Exempt position.
