DIRECTOR, KNIGHT SCIENCE JOURNALISM (KSJ) FELLOWSHIP , Program in Science, Technology, and Society (STS), to oversee the KSJ fellowships; direct and promote the KSJ's outreach and training activities, and to develop new initiatives to advance science journalism; serve as publisher of Undark magazine; sustain, fortify, and extend connections between the KSJ Program and the broader MIT community; maintain strong relationships between the KSJ Program and the global science writing community; manage the KSJ in-office staff; and serve as a steward of the KSJ Program's institutional and financial resources. The Knight Science Journalism (KSJ) Program was launched in 1983 to advance science journalism in the public interest by nurturing and enhancing the ability of journalists to accurately and thoughtfully illuminate science and its intersection with human culture. The KSJ Program is housed within MIT's Program in Science, Technology, and Society ( STS ). At the core of the Program are the KSJ Fellowships, among the most distinguished journalism fellowships in the world, awarded annually to working science journalists from around the globe. The KSJ Fellows spend an academic year at MIT delving into a research project of their choice at the intersections of science, technology, and journalism.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED : Bachelor's degree; a minimum of seven years of experience related to science, technology, medicine, health, and/or environmental journalism. PREFERRED : Organizational leadership experience; journalistic experience in any medium (e.g. print, digital, television, radio, podcast, data); non-traditional media experience. Candidates with extensive research and teaching experience may qualify for an appointment as Professor of Practice in the STS Program (though this is not a requirement of the position). Job #24693-12

The hiring range for this position is $185,000 to $235,000, commensurate with experience.
