Hero Journey Club (www.herojourney.club) provides community-based mental health support inside of virtual gathering spaces to address loneliness and mental health for kids, teens, and adults. We host weekly group sessions inside of video games like Minecraft to meet members where they already spend time, facilitated by credentialed facilitators.

Overview

We are seeking a part-time Performance Copywriter with a strong background in direct-response marketing to spearhead the strategy and development of HJC’s copy for three key areas:

- Conversion Quiz Flow: Strategize, conceptualize, and craft compelling quiz flows that drive conversions, engage new users, and introduce them to our brand.

- Sales-Focused Email Campaigns: Plan and write high-impact emails that nurture leads, engage subscribers, and convert prospects into paying customers.

- Paid Social Ad Copy: Create conversion-focused ad copy for paid social campaigns to drive traffic and achieve CPA targets.

As our Performance Copywriter, you will be responsible for ensuring all messaging is optimized for direct-response—with a data-driven approach, continual testing, and audience-centric iteration.

Key Responsibilities

- Conversion Quiz Flow- Own the quiz funnel: Develop quiz concepts, hooks, headlines, and question flow to engage potential customers and boost completion rates.

- Optimize for performance: Leverage A/B testing, analytics insights, and user feedback to refine quiz copy, calls-to-action, and segmentation messaging.

- Brand alignment: Ensure quiz content aligns with HJC’s tone of voice while driving strong conversions and delivering a seamless user experience.

- Sales-Focused Email Campaigns- Lead email strategy: Plan and execute email campaigns to move prospects through the funnel—welcome series, cart abandons, re-engagements, etc.

- Write high-impact copy: Craft subject lines, preview text, and body copy that encourage opens, clicks, and conversions.

- Test, measure, iterate: Continuously track key metrics (open rates, CTR, conversions), run split tests, and refine messaging for maximum impact.

- Paid Social Ad Copy- Ad concept creation: Collaborate with designers and the growth team to develop engaging, scroll-stopping ads for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

- Direct-response focus: Write concise, attention-grabbing copy optimized for conversion, clearly highlighting value propositions and calls-to-action.

- Continuous improvement: Perform ongoing testing (headlines, angles, CTAs) and refine ad copy to reduce cost-per-acquisition (CPA).

- Collaboration & Cross-Functional Work- Partner with marketing & design: Collaborate closely with the broader marketing team and designers to align copy with visual assets and campaign goals.

- Maintain brand voice: Infuse HJC’s unique personality, wit, and mission throughout all copy while maintaining consistency and clarity across sales channels.

- Manage multiple projects: Balance priorities and deadlines effectively, ensuring high-quality deliverables on time.

- Performance Optimization- Data-driven decisions: Use analytics tools and conversion tracking to identify opportunities, measure performance, and iterate on copy strategies.

- A/B testing: Experiment with different formats, messaging angles, and creative approaches to continually optimize conversion rates.

- Research & best practices: Stay up to date with industry trends, direct-response strategies, and emerging platforms to keep our copy cutting-edge.

Qualifications

- 4+ years of professional direct-response copywriting experience, preferably in performance marketing or conversion-focused roles.

- Proven track record of creating copy that drives measurable conversions and revenue (portfolio of relevant work required).

- Strong command of A/B testing methodologies, data analysis, and key performance metrics (e.g., CTR, CVR, CPA).

- Excellent writing skills with an eagle eye for detail—grammar, clarity, tone, and style.

- Collaborative mindset with experience working cross-functionally (designers, marketers, product managers).

- Ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards.

- Bachelor’s degree in English, Marketing, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Preferred

- Familiarity with quiz funnels or interactive marketing concepts.

- Experience writing email nurture sequences using marketing automation tools (e.g., Twilio, Klaviyo, Mailchimp).

- Background in writing for paid social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn).

- Passion for personal development, gaming, or ed-tech industries.
